CLISC ( CERTIFICATE COURSE IN LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE)


The Government of Kerala is conducting a Certificate Course in Library & Information Science (C.L.I.Sc) on yearly basis for students who have secured a pass in the S.S.L.C Examination through the State Central Library, Thiruvananthapuram under the Department of Higher Education with the State Librarian as Course Director. The Certificate Course is intended to provide the students, awareness about the basic facts and laws of Library Science, the structure and functions of Library and the various services provided by a Library. The candidates who wish to undergo this course can acquire sufficient knowledge & experience in the day to day functioning of a School, College, Public or Special Libraries. The Examination for the Certificate in Library and Information Science is conducted by the Commissioner for Government Examinations Kerala annually as per his Notification in due course.
Course Duration:-

The C.L.I.Sc course will be of six months duration. In accordance with G.O(Rt)No.1815/05/H.Edn dated 25-10-2005 the six months course includes four months of learning and two months for acquiring practical skills under the scheme “Earn While you learn” and the candidates are entitled to get a remuneration of Rs.900/- per month for the above training period. The Departmental candidates are not eligible for any remuneration.

Eligibility for admission:-
A pass in the S.S.L.C examination is the basic qualification. The marks/grade obtained for the above examination is the only criterion for admission.
Course Content :-
At present the C.L.I.Sc Course comprises of six papers, as follows :-

  • Library Organisation and Management
  • Library Classification & Cataloguing (Theory)
  • Library Classification ( Practice)
  • Library Cataloguing ( Practice)
  • Information Sources & Services.
  • Information Technology Examination:- A written examination for the above six papers will be conducted on completion of the six months course. Each paper will be of 2 hours duration. Total marks for written examination will be 500. Theory papers will be for 100 marks each and practical papers will be for 50 marks each.
    Course Fee:-
    As per G.O (Rt)No.470/2003/H.Edn dated, 29-03-2003, the total fee for the course is Rs.650/-. This amount is inclusive of Registration Fees, Tuition fees, Caution Deposit and Examination Fees. SC/ST students are exempted from paying course fee. They need only to pay an amount of Rs.200/- towards Caution Deposit. Availability of seats and its distribution:-

If candidates belonging to categories 4,5 and 6 are not available, those seats will be distributed to categories 2 and 3 in the ratio 2:1. If candidates belonging to categories 2,3 & 6 are not available, those seats will be distributed to General Merit Waiting List. Candidates belonging to categories 14 will be selected based on their merits without considering their type of disability.
The Application for admission to the certificate course must be submitted in the specified proforma.
The following documents have to be produced along with the application

 

  • Attested copy of mark list for the qualifying examination.
  • Caste/Community Certificate
    (Certificate in proof of Caste/Community).
    iii) Non Creamy Layer Certificate

The duly filled in and signed application form along with the above documents should be sent to the State Librarian, State Central Library, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram- Pin- 695033. The applications for admission will be scrutinized by a committee constituted by the Government as per G.O(Ms)No:221/86/H.Edn dated 29-08-1986 with Joint Commissioner for Government Examinations as Chairman, State Librarian as Convener and the representatives of Director of Collegiate Education, Director of Technical Education and Director of Medical Education as members and the Rank List for admission will be released by the above committee.

 

The classes of 42nd batch library and information science course are starting from 22/05/2024 Wednesday morning. All the students who have completed the admission process should reach the State Central Library by 10 AM on the same day.
